Santa Monica Chef Cooks at Food & Wine Festival for At-Risk Youth in Thailand

Stu and his kids.

Chef Stuart Skversky and his chef friends are slated to host a Thai flavored Food & Wine Festival  for the chef’s annual Stu and the Kids Fundraiser on August 9 at Vibiana on 214 S. Main St., raising scholarship funds for kids in Chaing Mai, Thailand.

From 4 to 8 p.m., Chef Skversky and others will be creating dishes to satiate and raise money for at-risk youth in Thailand. During the evening there will be an educational presentation as well as a silent auction that includes photos of Stu and The Kids in Thailand, hand-made Hill Tribe bags and silver jewelry, gift certificates, gift baskets and raffles benefiting Stu and the Kids.

In 2009, Stuart Skversky, a Los Angeles rising star chef, moved to Chiang Mai to become a full time volunteer at the Wat Dan Chan (the local Buddhist temple), teaching local children English, cooking and baking. Recognizing a need to help prepare these high risk Hill Tribe kids following their graduation, he founded Stu and the Kids to better prepare them for adulthood, helping them get into a university or technical college and giving them the tools for an independent future. Proceeds from this event go directly to the children’s education, school uniforms, supplies, housing, food and tuition for higher education.

Participants for this year’s event include Neal Fraser, Redbird; Eric Greenspan, Mare, Brooke Williamson and Nick Roberts, Playa Provisions; Akasha Richmond, Sambar; Matt Bencivenga, Wolfgang Puck Catering; Daniel Elkins and Erez Levy, Savore Catering; Sherry Yard, Helms Bakery; Ramon Reyes, The Ensaymada Project; Gilberto Cetina, Chicken Itza; Walter Manzke, Republique; Adam Del Bado, Ledlow; Warren Schwartz, The Munchery; Alec Lester, Patina Group; Three Weavers Beer; and the Bodega Wine Bar with spirit partners and others to be announced.
