Malibu Beachcomber

Situated on the historic Malibu Pier, the Beachcomber is the newest restaurant in Malibu, at the former location of Alice’s Restaurant.
This lovely venue affords a captivating frame for diners. There is no equal to the romance of Surfrider Beach, the beautiful pier and the haven that is Malibu.

Inside, the friendly atmosphere is reminiscent of a simpler era, evoking the beach café of the past. Richly enhanced with warm, wooden floors, leather booths and nautical artifacts, the restaurant has atmosphere.

Clams

We were seated in a quiet corner table that allowed polite conversation to take place. If you have been to a beachside restaurant lately, you know how valuable that can be.

Our dinner included many elements that were both interesting and different. We began with fresh seared Kampachi and Ahi, a sashimi dish that was delicate and fresh. Chef Chris Juers has created a menu that reflects American Fusion, incorporating international elements in a distinctly American way, like lightly searing the fish for sashimi.

Wild Mushroom and Truffle Mac is a chic spin on the old-fashioned favorite, macaroni and cheese. Flavorful and rich, this dish is gently seasoned with a truffle Parmesan sauce, served up with a pot-pourri of exotic mushrooms.

Our seafood dishes were a delightful presentation of a salmon en croute and a lovely seafood potpie.  The salmon was served baked in a light pastry shell in the shape of a fish. Inside was a wilted bed of spinach under fresh salmon fillet. The pastry was delicious. The potpie had a delicious brandied lobster base, full of scallops, shrimp and vegetables. English peas rounded out the experience.

A carpaccio of heirloom tomatoes with Gorgonzola drizzled with olive oil led to the next course, a stunning filet mignon with a reduction wine sauce. The steak was very rare and buttery smooth, served atop mashed potatoes our mothers never dreamed of.

Desserts included a s’mores sundae complete with roasted marshmallows and a doughnut bread pudding, rounding out the American touch.
