Los Angeles Police Chief Charlie Beck and Los Angeles County Sheriff Jim McDonnell will throw the ceremonial first pitch at tonight’s Los Angeles Dodgers-Atlanta Braves game at Dodger Stadium.

The first pitch coincides with the announcement of the re-launch of a program that has LAPD officers distribute Dodger baseball cards while on patrol, and the addition of the sheriff’s department to the program.

Marine Corps Lance Cpl. Manuel Lopez of Compton will be honored as the Military Hero of the Game. Lopez enlisted in 1998, served as an assault man for six years before being deployed to Iraq as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Lopez also served in Operation Noble Eagle, an anti-terrorist force assigned to the U.S. West Coast following the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

Lee Lacy, a Dodger second baseman-outfielder from 1972-78, will sign autographs in the left field pavilion from 5-7 p.m.

Saxophonist Michael Lington will perform the national anthem.

Auto gates will open at 4:40 p.m. and stadium gates at 5:10 p.m. Pregame ceremonies will begin at 6:55 p.m. for the 7:10 p.m. game, which concludes a six-game homestand.

The Dodgers will return to Dodger Stadium June 4 to begin a four-game series against the St. Louis Cardinals.
