Tired of having limited happy hour options with the same mass-produced beer brands and syrupy cocktails? Look no further than Bar Food in Brentwood, where the unique, ever-changing beer selection keeps visitors on their toes and the freshly made cocktails are concocted purist-style.

With such an offering of stand out options, co-owner Johana Cedicci said Bar Food set out to go above and beyond the conventional happy hour.

“What makes us a little bit different from the rest is that we have a seven-day-a-week happy hour,” Cedicci said. “We start at mid-day and go until about an hour later than most businesses.”

Bar Food provides its happy hour specials every day from 2:30 pm to 8 pm, with a full dinner menu also available starting at 4:30 pm. The restaurant itself offers more than 200 whiskies and 30 beers on tap.

“It’s important to note our rotating beer selection, where we do something unusual that most businesses don’t do,” Cedicci said. “Usually for such selections, restaurants tend to use Miller Lite or other mass domestic products. We really pride ourselves on our beers. Our rotating selection is very unusual and special, and we change it up about once a month.”

Aside from Blue Moon, Bar Food staff generally only serves beers from small craft breweries. Currently, pale ale Tour de Fall from New Belgium Brewing and Firestone Walker Oaktoberfest make up the rotating selection.

During happy hour, customers can choose from the rotating beer selection ($4), other beers like Blue Moon and Lagunitas IPA ($5), wines like Los Vascos cabernet and Butterfield chardonnay ($5), shots ($5), well drinks ($6), and a list cocktails like Moscow mules, Cosmos, and margaritas ($7).

“We’re very much purists when it comes to our margaritas,” Cedicci explained. “We use blanco tequila, lime juice, agave, and that’s about it. Our citrus juice is fresh-squeezed every day, and we don’t use any mixes. We let the ingredients stand on their own – we like to keep it fresh and simple.”

Of course, it wouldn’t be happy hour without a snack to munch on alongside a drink. The happy hour food menu prices remain affordable and ranges from $3 to $9. Cedicci elaborated on some of Bar Food’s most popular choices.

“Our dollar hot dog is always a hit,” Cedicci said. “It comes with an all-beef hot dog, ketchup, mustard, and onions.”

The “extremely popular sliders” are also big sellers. Offered with four different styles of meat – buffalo chicken, meatball, pulled pork, and fried chicken – the sliders are all served on brioche bun and each boast a flavorful blend of ingredients.

Continuing with another crowd favorite, Cedicci explained the uniqueness of Bar Food’s spicy tuna, which happens to be her personal menu item as well.

“The spicy tuna consists of sushi rice that we fry, spicy tuna on top, and house made spicy mayonnaise and sriracha,” Cedicci said.

From the classic hot dogs and sliders to the more atypical spicy tuna and edamame, Bar Food will likely have an appealing option for all of its guests – especially after choosing a cold beer from the restaurant’s extensive quality collection to complement the meal.

Bar Food is located at 12217 Wilshire Blvd. in Brentwood.
