Los Angeles and Culver City Public Works on Scene
Update: The road was reopened at 1:05 a.m. on Monday morning.
On Sunday, May 5, a tree collapsed in Culver City, resulting in the closure of a major street. The Culver City Police Department announced at 2:45 p.m. that a tree had collapsed and fallen on some automobiles on a Culver City street. It is unknown whether the wind was a factor in the tree’s collapse.
The press release states, “Please avoid Washington Place at Wade St. A large tree has fallen onto the roadway, and eastbound and westbound travel lanes on Washington Place are closed until further notice.”
At 9:04 p.m., the Culver City Police posted a social media message as an update. The message said, “Washington Place is currently inaccessible in both directions at Wade Street following a sizable tree collapse onto multiple vehicles, obstructing the roadway. Prompt responses from Culver City and Los Angeles Public Works have initiated efforts to clear the obstruction and reopen the thoroughfare to traffic.”
Clearly, the tree’s collapse has caused more damage and was larger than could have been cleared on a Sunday. Washington Place remains closed until further notice.
