Additional rail service will be offered Monday in anticipation of thousands of people heading to downtown Los Angeles to participate in a massive May Day march.
Metro plans to operate weekday rush-hour service throughout the day on the Gold, Blue, Expo and Green rail lines. The agency will also boost the rush- hour frequency of Red Line subway trains, offering service every six minutes throughout the day, with the line operating six-car trains.
Metro officials urged people to purchase TAP cards and load them with the appropriate fare in advance to avoid potentially lengthy lines at fare machines on Monday, when more than 100,000 people are expected to pack into the downtown area.
The busiest rail stations are expected to be the Red Line Westlake/MacArthur Park Station, the Seventh Street/Metro Center Station, the Grand Park/Civic Center Station and Union Station. Metro plans to have extra staffing and security on hand at stations.
Metro also warned people who take buses in the downtown area to expect potential detours and delays during the marches, as various streets are closed to accommodate the crowds.
