Authorities Wednesday were investigating the fatal shooting of a woman in West Hollywood and of a man about a mile away amid an unconfirmed report that the two deaths may have resulted from a murder-suicide.
The woman’s shooting was reported at 8:43 p.m. Tuesday in the 8700 block of Rosewood Avenue, near Robertson and Beverly boulevards, said Deputy Trina Schrader of the Sheriff’s Information Bureau. Responding deputies found the woman being treated by fire personnel for a gunshot wound to the upper body, she said. The woman died at the scene.
There was no suspect information or immediately apparent motive for the shooting, Schrader said.
Fox11 reported that investigators were working to determine if the woman was killed by her boyfriend, who, it appears, then shot and killed himself about an hour later and a mile away in a parked SUV in the city of Los Angeles.
Los Angeles police Officer Irma Mota said a man was found dead about 10:10 p.m. Tuesday in a parked vehicle in the 100 block of South Croft Avenue, and a handgun was found in his hand.
LAPD detectives began conducting an investigation into his death, and then were contacted by sheriff’s detectives, who took over the investigation, Mota said.
The sheriff’s department confirmed only that both deaths were under investigation but did not elaborate on a connection between the cases.
The names of the dead were withheld, pending family notifications.
