The Columbia Scholastic Press Association (CSPA) has awarded The Oracle, The Archer School for Girls’ student-run news site, a Gold Medal – its highest honor – in its Medalist Critique.
According to CSPA, the point of the Medalist Critiques is to offer specific instruction on how to improve student work. In evaluating the Oracle’s website, the CSPA judge wrote, “You have a site to be proud of! I enjoyed learning about your school and what’s going on. I had to search for small things to give you to improve on.”
The Oracle staff, consisting of 10 staff writers, five columnists, and five editorial board members, scored a total of 942 out of 1,000 points. Archer students who have taken or are currently enrolled in the 21st-century journalism class run The Oracle. The mission of the publication is “to provide a forum that encourages authentic voices and discussion in our increasingly diverse educational community.”
