A man in his 20s was killed this morning when his motorcycle crashed on the transition road from the eastbound Santa Monica (10) Freeway to the Harbor (110) Freeway in downtown Los Angeles, and he was thrown onto a street, the California Highway Patrol reported.
The crash was reported at 2:41 a.m., CHP Officer Patrick Kimball said.
The motorcycle was found on the transition road but there was no rider, Kimball said. The rider was later found laying on Venice Boulevard just west of Figueroa.
Kimball said the CHP’s doesn’t yet know if there was another vehicle involved in the accident or whether the motorcycle was in a solo crash. The rider was pronounced dead at the scene, Kimball said. His name was withheld pending family notification.
The crash shut down the transition road between the two freeways, Kimball said. There was no immediate word on when the transition road will reopen. The closure could end up creating a tough morning commute into the downtown area.
