Pieces of the Venice Beach puzzle as to why two men and a woman beat up an on-duty lifeguard are coming together with new video emerging to reveal what happened before the altercation.
The video, released by the L.A. Times this morning, shows the lifeguard pouring a large bucket of water onto a woman and man from below the lifeguard tower. Before that, the video shows several people exchanging words with the lifeguard standing on the tower before one attempts to climb the tower ladder.
After he drops the water, the lifeguard steps down from the tower and is immediately punched in the head by the man. In other videos, the woman can be seen stomping on the lifeguard while he’s down and two other lifeguards breaking up the fight.
The lifeguard is suffering from a damaged, possibly broken, hand and is on paid medical leave. The attackers were identified by LAPD as Harutiun Balyan, 30, and Ara Sarkisyan, 28. The woman was identified as Arusiak Gekchyan, 28. All three were arrested on suspicion of battery on an executive officer, a felony. They have been freed on bail, LAPD officials said.
