A motorist was killed and his female passenger was seriously injured, when their parked small sedan was struck by a pickup truck in Malibu today.
The pickup truck also hit another pickup on Pacific Coast Highway, near Corral Canyon Road. The occupants in the second pickup truck were not injured, according to a City News Service reporter at the scene.
It was not immediately known whether anyone was cited or arrested, or if the man died at the scene or at an area hospital.
Paramedics were dispatched to the scene on Pacific Coast Highway, near Corral Canyon Road at 6:23 a.m., according to a Los Angeles County Fire Department dispatcher.
At least one person had to be extricated from a vehicle, he said.
The driver in the initial pickup truck crashed into the parked vehicles on or near Latigo Beach. The crash was about 300 feet east of the traffic signal at Corral Canyon Road and Pacific Coast Highway — near an area where people park their vehicles and head for the beach.
At 6:50 a.m., the California Highway Patrol issued a SigAlert closing all eastbound lanes on Pacific Coast Highway between Corral Canyon Road and Puerto for approximately one hour.
At 7:10 a.m, another SigAlert was issued extending the closure for an additional four hours.
