A car-theft suspect was shot and killed in Burbank today in the second deadly Los Angeles Police Department shooting in four days after allegedly ramming a police car.
The shooting occurred around 1:45 a.m. in a cul-de-sac near the intersection of National Avenue and North Pass Avenue after the man repeatedly rammed an LAPD patrol vehicle, LAPD Officer Liliana Preciado said.
Preciado said an officer on the passenger side of the patrol vehicle being rammed opened fire on the suspect, who then ran from the vehicle. He was chased by officers before falling near an alley off North Pass Street.
No shots were fired during the foot pursuit, Preciado said
Burbank Fire Department firefighters declared the suspect dead at the scene, she said. His name was withheld, pending notification of his relatives.
The LAPD’s earlier fatal officer-involved shooting occurred Sunday afternoon in downtown Los Angeles. Killed in that shooting was a homeless Cameroonian who allegedly tried to grab an officer’s weapon during a scuffle.
