A spilled load of gravel blocked all southbound lanes of the San Diego (405) Freeway at Culver City today, and overflow traffic quickly snarled approach routes to Los Angeles International Airport.
Six lanes of stopped traffic backed up three miles, to National Boulevard, and Sepulveda, La Cienega and Centinela boulevards were also jammed as traffic was detoured off the freeway.
At 7:05 a.m., a pickup truck overturned on the freeway’s carpool lane, and spilled gravel onto all lanes of traffic, CHP officers said.
As of 7:38 a.m., a Caltrans crew was attempting to clear the number five lane and freeway shoulder to allow to allow trapped vehicles to exit the freeway, according to the CHP.
All six lanes of freeway were diverted to the east and west Marina (90) Freeway.
