Sarah Hyland was granted a three-year restraining order requiring her ex-boyfriend to stay at least 100 yards away from the “Modern Family” actress and stay clear of her home and workplace, an attorney confirmed Monday.
The 23-year-old Hyland had obtained a temporary restraining order last month against Matthew Prokop, whom she accused of verbally and physically abusing her.
In a hearing last Thursday, Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Andrea Thompson in Van Nuys agreed to extend the order for three years, according to her attorney’s office.
In court papers, Hyland contended Prokop, 24, had once thrown her against a car and choked her to the point of being unable to breathe or speak. She also claimed Prokop “bombarded (her) with vile, threatening and emotionally disturbing texts and voicemails, including his own suicide threats.”
According to the court documents, Hyland even enlisted the help of her television mother, actress Julie Bowen, in ending her roughly five-year relationship with Prokop.
Hyland claims Prokop responded by threatening to burn down her house. Her court papers claim Prokop has even threatened to harm her dog.
In happier times, Prokop appeared on an episode of “Modern Family,” portraying a love interest of Hyland’s character, Haley Dunphy.
