Westfield Workout Wednesdays wrap-up

The final free Westfield Workout Wednesday class is set to take place this week.
The final free Westfield Workout Wednesday class is set to take place this week.

This summer, Westfield Century City has been the grounds for not only shopping, dining, and socializing, but also for fitness and exercise. Through a partnership with BurnThis, a mobile application that aims to create and maintain communities in the realm of fitness, Westfield Century City has been providing either free or $5 workouts every Wednesday evening since July.

Westfield Workout Wednesdays have been hosting fitness instructors from a wide range of exercise studios throughout the greater Los Angeles area. These studios specialize in a versatility of physical activities – from Zumba dance to pilates – and offer the chance to focus on various kinds of exercises including cardio, strength training, and even a 1000-calorie boot camp-style workout.

On Thursday, Sept. 4, Carmela Mondello of Barry’s BootCamp, the studio responsible for creating the 1000-calorie workout session, led an hour-long class that left participants panting and sweating.

However, fitness instructors like Mondello, who are more than accustomed to the strenuous demand of a full-body workout, kept participants going with her vivacious energy and words of encouragement.

Several regulars of Westfield Workout Wednesdays expressed their appreciation regarding the caliber of the trainers that have conducted classes thus far.

Many an exclusive appearance has been made on Wednesday evenings at Westfield Century City, from DJs to Teddy Bass, the renowned celebrity trainer who has instructed and exercised with the likes of Kate Hudson and Cameron Diaz.

In addition to the participation of the well-qualified fitness instructors and top-tier exercise studios, Westfield Workout Wednesdays also provided mats, complimentary water bottles and protein bars, and even giveaways like gift bags by Lorna Jane.

It is no wonder that the summer exercise program, which was initially set to conclude at the beginning of August, was extended for another month.

“There’s been an amazing response, both from the participants to the partners and studios reaching out, wanting to take part,” Anna Kohanski, co-founder of BurnThis, said. “Westfield itself also was looking to keep the program going because of its popularity. There’s been an amazing response all around.”

The final Westfield Workout Wednesday is set to take place this Wednesday, Sept. 10 at 6:30 pm. This week, the Dailey Method Barre Studio, located in Venice, will be leading the class. The Dailey Method incorporates several types of effective exercises through an unconventional combination of ballet barre work, core conditioning, orthopedic exercises, and yoga.

Be sure to RSVP by downloading the free BurnThis mobile app, which allows users to view upcoming fitness classes and events, coordinate their attendance with friends, and schedule/cancel classes accordingly. The app is user-friendly, easy-to-navigate, and ideal for those who share a passion for fitness and exercise and are looking for community events.

Parking is $2 in the Westfield parking structures. The class is free of charge.
