Mayor Eric Garcetti will be on vacation for the next 10 days, but his aides have declined to disclose his whereabouts except to
say that he is traveling outside of California.
Garcetti’s aides also refused to reveal the destinations of recent weekend trips the mayor took to Indiana and the Washington, D.C., area, though when asked directly by City News Service, the mayor offered up the information readily.
Mayoral spokesman Jeff Millman declined repeatedly to disclose where the mayor will be traveling for this latest trip, which lasts until Aug. 4, saying their communication office’s policy is to protect Garcetti’s privacy during personal trips.
Millman noted that the mayor has been known to post pictures onto photo-sharing site Instagram, which could offer up some clues as to his whereabouts.
Millman said they only disclose travel information when it is for a work trip, or if the personal trip is out of the country.
The mayor’s office disclosed last December that he was taking his family on a two-week vacation to Australia.
Garcetti already was out of the state this morning, having traveled to Colorado Thursday evening to meeting with U.S. Olympic Committee officials to discuss Los Angeles’ bid to represent the United States as a potential host for the 2024 Summer Olympics.
Council President Herb Wesson will be acting mayor while Garcetti is on vacation.
