New Directions, Inc. has provided services to homeless veterans for more than two decades. The organization has helped thousands of U.S. military veterans here in the County of Los Angeles to transform their lives. Los Angeles has the largest population of homeless military veterans in the nation and New Directions is making a difference.
Since 1992, New Directions has provided comprehensive services to veterans right here in our backyard. Services are tailored to each individual veteran – men and women alike – and all focus on each veteran’s goals leading to financial sustainability and safe, affordable housing. Services include, but are not limited to substance abuse treatment, counseling, job-relevant education, help in securing housing, job training and placement, money management and other life skills workshops.
In 2004, New Directions offered help to just two veterans who had served in Afghanistan (OEF) or Iraq (OIF). As the number of OEF and OIF veterans continues to increase, they are expanding their ability to serve women and the “New Generation†of veterans. Part of the way they are able to accomplish this is through partnerships with local organizations including area businesses, many churches and temples, and fellow members of the Westside Shelter & Hunger Coalition.
