The Willows Community School, 8509 Higuera Street in Culver City, will host acclaimed speaker, author and activist Jonathan Kozol on Monday, September 10, 2012, 7:00 pm in The Willows Community School Theater.
Kozol will talk about his latest book, “FIRE IN THE ASHES – Twenty-Five Years Among the Poorest Children in America” which explores the lives of the inner-city children introduced in his earlier works as they progress into adulthood. Kozol will signs copies of his book after his lecture.
A New York Times Best-Selling Author, National Book Award Winner and definitive voice on education in America, Kozol began his career 40 years ago as a fourth grade school teacher in a Boston inner-city school during the tumultuous 1960’s which he chronicled in his first book, “Death at An Early Age”. Subsequent works, including “The Shame of the Nation” and “Amazing Grace” and Savage Inequalities”, focus on education and other social justice issues.
“As part of our commitment to lifelong learning, we are pleased to bring Jonathan Kozol to the Los Angeles community to share his vast educational experience and insight,†says Lisa Rosenstein, Willows Head of School.
