Write On Girls launches first writing retreat for girls in Southern California

Write On Girls campers enjoy writing and outdoor activitiesWrite On Girls will host a writer’s retreat for girls ages 10-14 in the Santa Ynez Mountains August 21, 2011 through 25, 2011. Located at Rancho Oso, just 20 minutes east of Santa Barbara, the overnight camp and writer’s retreat for girls offers a fun environment in which to encourage young writers to explore their unique voices and imaginations in a safe and supportive environment.

Founders Lia Langworthy and Jennifer Croslow, both professional writers, had a vision of creating a writer’s retreat just for girls. In addition to mentoring the young writers in crafting stories, poems and songs, Langworthy and Croslow take time out to enjoy horse back riding, swimming, hiking, kayaking and fishing in Lake Cachuma with the girls. Campfires, s’mores, sleeping in covered wagons and of course sCampers write and share thier storiestorytelling end each night of the week-long retreat.

“We wanted to bring girls back to the basics, sleeping in covered wagons, cooking and dining al fresco and writing in nature,†said Langworthy.

Space at the camp is limited to 10 girls. The cost of the retreat is $800. Scholarships are available. For more information contact Jennifer Croslow at Jencros@yahoo.com or visit www.WriteOnGirls.org.Mountain vistas inspire young writers at Rancho Oso, host of Write On Girls
