The Malibu City Council recently approved plans for the largest mall to be built in Malibu’s history. The 112,000 and 99,000 square foot versions – both of which were approved – will continue on to the Coastal Commission. The smaller mixed-use plan does not require Coastal Commission approval; the larger version does.
But, don’t start writing up your shopping lists yet. Both plans will likely continue on to the California courts as there are still objections to the project. There is the possibility of at least one neighbor bringing a lawsuit along with environmental groups who are concerned about the effect the added waste will have on the area’s ecosystem.
