All Candidates Advance in Two Assembly Races

The candidates in two State Assembly races covering the Westside will feature the same four candidates in November as had run in the June 3 primary, as Richard Bloom, Bradly S. Torgan, Sebastian Ridley-Thomas, and Glen Ratcliff all remain in their respective races.

Since there were only two candidates in the each of races for the 50th and 54th Assembly districts, the same candidates for those seats will square off against each other again in the Nov. 4 general election.

With 92 percent of the votes reported as of 12:40 a.m. on Wednesday morning, Ridley-Thomas won the June 3 primary election by more than a three-to-one margin. Ridley-Thomas reportedly had 15,540 votes (77.12 percent) compared to 4,611 votes (22.88 percent) for Ratcliff.

Interestingly enough, this is Ridley-Thomas’s first run as an incumbent for the 54th Assembly seat. He was just elected to the seat earlier this year. At 26 years old, he is currently the youngest state legislator.

The 54th Assembly District represents areas such as Culver City and Century City in Sacramento.

Meanwhile, Bloom is also running in his first election as an incumbent state legislator. With a little less than 48 percent of the precincts reporting as of 12:40 a.m. on Wednesday morning, Bloom is also winning his race for the 50th Assembly District by a comfortable margin.

The former Santa Monica mayor garnered 22,711 votes (73.16 percent), while Torgan collected 8,331 votes (26.84 percent).

Bloom’s 50th Assembly District represents cities and neighborhoods on the Westside such as Malibu, Santa Monica, Brentwood, and Beverly Hills, among others.

Bloom and Torgan will see each other again on the Nov. 4 ballot, as will Ridley-Thomas and Ratcliff.
