Dodgers fans told to prepare for wet weather today

The National Weather Service is forecasting a 70 percent chance of rain throughout today’s Los Angeles Dodgers-San Diego Padres game at Dodger Stadium.

The rain “probably won’t be heavy enough to cause a cancellation, but fans should be prepared for wet weather,” Andrew Rorke, a senior forecaster with the National Weather Service, told City News Service.

The biggest problem for fans will be driving to and from the game, Rorke said.

“We all know how drivers are during the first rain of the season,” Rorke said.

The Dodgers are in the midst of a team-record streak of 1,292 games without a rainout. The most recent of the 17 rainouts since Dodger Stadium opened in 1962 occurred on April 17, 2000.

The start of the Dodgers’ April 7 game against San Diego was delayed 30 minutes by rain, but the game was played without interruption. Rain caused a one-hour, 25-minute delay of the May 14 game against the Colorado Rockies.

The Dodgers had one rainout during the first 14 seasons at Dodger Stadium, which occurred on April 21, 1967. There were three rainouts in both 1976 and 1977, two in 1978, one each in 1982, 1983 and 1986, three in 1988 and one each in 1999 and 2000.

Nine of the rainouts have occurred in April, including each of the last five, four in September and two each in May and August.

Today is the final regular season game of 2015 for both teams and has no effect on the standings. The Dodgers assured themselves of home field advantage in their National League Division Series against the New York Mets Saturday with a 2-1 victory over the Padres.

The game is Fan Appreciation Day. Fans seeking to be eligible to win prizes in the first round of giveaways should have their tickets scanned by 11:30 a.m., a team official said.

Auto gates will open at 9:40 a.m. and stadium gates at 10:10 a.m. for the 12:10 p.m. game. Pregame ceremonies are scheduled to begin at noon.
