Funeral services were pending Wednesday for Geoffrey Lewis, a longtime character actor who frequently appeared on screen alongside Clint Eastwood.
Lewis, the father of actress Juliette Lewis, died Tuesday at age 79 in Woodland Hills.
One of his sons, Lightfield Lewis, told the Los Angeles Times his father died while working out at the Motion Picture Hospital.
On her Twitter page, Juliette Lewis thanked fans for their words of support.
“No amount of tears will wash it away,” she wrote. “Thank u for your outpouring. Life is love and love never dies.”
She also posted a photo of herself and her father, writing, “He loved us so. He loved us so, so, so much. I am forever my father’s daughter and he will never (be) gone.”
Geoffrey Lewis, a San Diego native, was nominated for a Golden Globe award for his work in the sitcom “Flo.” He also appeared in television shows such as “Bonanza,” “The High Chaparral,” “Mannix,” “Gunsmoke” and “Mission: Impossible.”
He first shared the screen with Eastwood in “High Plains Drifter” in 1973, appearing as the leader of a trio of outlaws returning to exact revenge on a western town. He re-teamed with Eastwood the next year in “Thunderbolt and Lightfoot,” and again in “Every Which Way But Loose,” “Bronco Billy” and “Any Which Way You Can.”
His other film credits include “Fletch Lives,” “Double Impact,” “The Way of the Gun,” “Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil,” “The Lawnmower Man” and “The Man Without a Face.”
