Another series of late night full freeway closures is planned for the Santa Ana (5) Freeway between Orange County and the 605 Freeway tonight and all week.
But other major construction zones north and east of Los Angeles will not see full closures — only lane restrictions.
The northbound 5 will see major lane closures from Valley View Avenue to Rosecrans Avenue in Downey starting at 10 p.m. tonight through Thursday nights. By midnight, the entire northbound freeway will be closed to all traffic.
The transition ramps from the westbound 91 Freeway to northbound 5 will also be closed to traffic tonight.
The barricades will be removed by 5 a.m. Tuesday through Friday, Caltrans officials said.
Traffic heading towards Los Angeles can bypass the backup by using Route 91 west to the north 605 or 710 freeways.
Southbound 5 traffic will have partial lane closures and traffic can be expected to build there.
The $1.8 billion project to gut and rebuild Interstate 5 near the Los Angeles-Orange County Line will add up to three lanes in each direction to a freeway that had not been widened in more than 50 years.
No overnight full freeway closures are planned this week at major freeway reconstruction projects now underway on the Golden State (5) Freeway across the San Fernando Valley or at the Grapevine, or on the San Bernardino (10) Freeway east of the 605, Caltrans officials said.
