The Prostate Cancer Foundation announced today that physician, cancer survivor and radio/TV personality Drew Pinsky has been elected to its board of directors.
“Drew has valuable experience in internal and addiction medicine,” said Dr. Jonathan W. Simons, the Santa Monica-based foundation’s president and CEO.
“As one of approximately 16 million prostate cancer survivors worldwide, Drew brings personal perspectives and counsel on a broad scope of critical issues important to our mission to improve and save lives from prostate cancer,” Simons said. “He also brings the view of a family doctor to those in all walks of life.”
Pinsky is a member of the staff of Huntington Memorial Hospital and an assistant clinical professor of psychiatry at the Keck USC School of Medicine.
The Pasadena resident is known for hosting the reality series “Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew,” the HLN show “Drew Drew on Call” and the nationally syndicated radio show “Loveline,” as well as a health podcast.
“After my personal battle with prostate cancer, I decided to join forces with PCF to help spread the word about its researchers’ latest life-saving breakthroughs,” Pinsky said. “PCF’s commitment to curing prostate cancer has accelerated discoveries that will ultimately benefit all cancers.”
PCF, founded in 1993, has raised more than $595 million and provided funding to more than 2,000 research programs at nearly 200 cancer centers and universities in 18 countries and territories.
