The New West Symphony will host a pre-season soiree and concert, “Dueling Stradivarius Violins” to benefit the New West Symphony musicians on Sunday, August 27, 2017 at the Sherwood Country Club in Thousand Oaks.
The intimate event will showcase the talents of acclaimed violinists Vadim Gluzman and Philippe Quint, who will square off with their Stradivarius violins for this exciting performance accompanied by pianist Angela Yoffe. Each purchase of a ticket includes sponsorship of a New West Symphony orchestra member as part of the “Adopt-A- Musician” program.
“This is an amazing opportunity for the New West Symphony to host two of the most sought-after violinists in the world!” said Natalia Staneva, Executive Director of the New West Symphony. “Vadim and Philippe are lifelong friends who met at Julliard and they’ve created this beautiful showcase of virtuosity in which they square off in a ‘battle’ in the form of strings, suites and scherzos. Guests will be treated to front-row seats for a very unique performance while supporting the Symphony and our musicians.”
Vadim Gluzman is an Israeli violinist who has been hailed as “the next Itzhak Perlman.” Gluzman has performed with many prestigious orchestras such as the Berlin Philharmonic, Boston Symphony, Cleveland Orchestra, Chicago Symphony, Philadelphia Orchestra, London Philharmonic, Israel Philharmonic, London Symphony, Leipzig Gewandhaus, and many others.
Gluzman’s festival appearances include performances at Tanglewood, Verbier, Ravinia, Lockenhaus, and the North Shore Chamber Music Festival in Illinois, which was founded by Gluzman and pianist Angela Yoffe, his wife and recital partner who will accompany this performance. He plays the 1690 ‘ex-Leopold Auer’ Stradivari on extended loan to him through the Stradivari Society of Chicago.
GRAMMY-nominated violinist Philippe Quint is known for reimagining traditional works, rediscovering neglected repertoire, and commissioning new works by contemporary composers. Quint received several GRAMMY nominations for his albums of Korngold and William Schuman Concertos,
and he regularly appears with major orchestras at venues ranging from the Gewandhaus in Leipzig to Carnegie Hall in New York. Quint’s live performances and interviews have been broadcast on television by CBS, CNN, ABC, BBC World News, NBC, Reuters, Bloomberg TV, as well as by radio stations nationwide. He plays the 1708 "Ruby" Antonio Stradivari violin on loan to him through The Stradivari Society®.
