A truck driver from Utah is scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday on a felony count of vehicular manslaughter stemming from the death of a bicyclist who was crushed by a cargo container that was knocked loose after striking a railroad overcrossing in Carson.
Wesley Phil Blake, 50, is charged in connection with the Oct. 27, 2015, death of Robert Castorena, 51, of Long Beach.
Blake was driving a truck and pulling a flatbed trailer carrying a shipping container that struck the bottom of the railroad bridge and was knocked loose from the trailer, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office. The container landed on its side, crushing Castorena, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
If convicted of the charge, Blake could face up to six years in state prison, according to the District Attorney’s Office.
