Authorities Friday continued their efforts to find an 84-year-old man reported missing from the scene of a fire that gutted a three- story hillside home in Mount Washington and left a 74-year-old woman with smoke inhalation.
Of the 12 known residents, only the 84-year-old man was unaccounted for as firefighters battled the stubborn blaze, which was reported about 8:35 p.m. Thursday in the 4000 block of Sea View Avenue, Brian Humphrey of the Los Angeles Fire Department said.
The injured woman was in fair condition, Humphrey said.
More than 125 firefighters were assigned to fight the fire, which caused the 9,111-square foot home to be structurally compromised, Humphrey said. Firefighters extinguished the flames in about three hours, but remained at the scene overnight dousing hot spots.
The cause of the fire was under investigation. A damage estimate was not immediately available.
