LOS ANGELES (CNS) – The coroner today released the name of a 7-year-old girl killed while riding in a car that was driven into a wall and a house in South Los Angeles, severely injuring three children and the driver.
She was Angelina Naranjo of Los Angeles, said coroner’s Lt. Larry Dietz. An autopsy was pending.
The woman in her 30s was arrested for suspicion of DUI at a hospital where she and the three children were in critical condition, Los Angeles police Sgt. Allan Rabina told City News Service.
The crash took place about 5:45 p.m. Sunday at the intersection of McKinley Avenue and 93rd Street, Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Brian Humphrey said.
The woman was driving southbound on McKinley Avenue at “a high rate of speed,” Rabina said. She lost control of the car, crashed into a fence and slammed into a house on the opposite side of the street, at 93rd Street.
The injured included an 18-month-old boy, a 2-year-old boy and a 4-year- old boy. “It looks like none of the kids were properly restrained,” he said. None were ejected from the car. When police arrived, the children were out of the car, taken out by citizens trying to help.
Police believe the woman is the mother of “at least one of the children” in the car, but possibly not all of them, Rabina said.
