A search of the ocean near Zuma Beach was called off yesterday afternoon when authorities determined there was no victim in the water.
U.S. Coast Guard personnel and county lifeguards launched the search about 8:30 a.m. after someone reported finding a note and some clothing on the beach, spurring concerns that someone had entered the water.
Authorities later said no note or clothing were found, but a backpack was. The pack contained a purse, some prescriptions and a diary that belonged to a woman later located at a hospital, authorities said.
No details were revealed about why the woman was in a hospital.
The search was called off about 1:30 p.m. once the woman was found by sheriff’s department personnel, said Coast Guard Petty Officer SondraKay Kneen.
