Two suspects in an attempted bank robbery in Culver City who had been at-large have been taken into custody and charged with attempted robbery and attempted murder, police said Wednesday.
Two suspects approached the One West Bank at 10784 Jefferson Blvd. around 9:05 a.m. on Jan. 21, wearing gloves, glasses and hats, police said. They were confronted by a bank security guard. One suspect pulled a gun and fired at the security guard, police said.
No one was injured. The security guard retreated into the bank and saw the suspects flee out of the parking lot into a waiting vehicle. No money was stolen.
A perimeter was set up in the area and two nearby elementary schools — El Marino and El Rincon — were temporarily placed on lockdown.
A short time later, residents reported one suspect running near Hannum Avenue and Sawtelle Boulevard. Officers quickly arrested him, and a second suspect was soon arrested at the TJ Maxx store in the Studio Village shopping center after store employees located police.
Police from Santa Monica and Beverly Hills and officers in helicopters from the Los Angeles Police Department and Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department looked for additional suspects.
The getaway vehicle was located and evidence of the crime was found in the car. The remaining suspects were located in their homes in Los Angeles with 24 hours of the crime.
