Westside Neighborhood School has announced the first of its speaker series events for the 2015-2016 school year, featuring Christine Chaille on Oct. 7, 2015.

Christine Chaille is Professor and Chair of the Department of Curriculum and Instruction at Portland State University.

She received her doctorate from UCLA and has taught at Portland State University since 1991, with a focus on early childhood education.

She is the author of many books on early childhood education including “Constructivism Across the Early Childhood Curriculum: Big Ideas as Inspiration and Integrating Math” and” Science in Early Childhood Classrooms Through Big Ideas.”

She has also written many publications, primarily on the importance of children’s play, and has been a school consultant and keynote speaker for national and international conferences on education.

Christine’s evening presentation will focus on how children learn by constructing knowledge through theory-building. The discussion will consider what theory-building looks like and how parents can provide a physical and social environment that supports this natural learning process.  Attendees of this dynamic evening will discover how to open themselves up to learning from and with their children by taking a stance of “not-knowing.”

WNS is excited to welcome Christine Chaille to our campus to speak on a topic that closely reflects the school’s values of preserving childhood and teaching to the whole child through an academic program with targeted and differentiated instruction, as well as best practices in social learning.  Christine’s philosophy of providing a highly supportive environment where big ideas are encouraged and celebrated, both at home and at school, matches WNS’ goal for its community of families and students.

Christine’s presentation will speak to a wide range of audience members. The informative evening will take place on October 7, 2015, from 7 – 9 PM at Westside Neighborhood School, 5401 Beethoven Street, Los Angeles, CA 90066. The event is open to the public free of charge with an RSVP.  Please RSVP to speakerseries@wnsk8.com.
