Cheviot Hills offers tennis programs, playing time

Those who enjoy playing tennis for competition and fun, or just want to learn the basics of the sport, can find plenty of opportunities at Cheviot Hills Tennis Center near Century City. It’s an impressive tennis facility with plenty of courts and lights so players can hit well into the evening hours.

Cheviot Hills Tennis Center welcomes players of all ages and abilities. The Junior Clinic spring session started Monday, March 23, and continues through June 8. Youngsters aged 4-18 will participate in classes throughout the day. Qualified instructors will teach tennis to players of various levels through an assortment of drills and games.

Manager Bobby Marjanovic has been pleased so far with participation in the clinics.

“It’s been going well,” he said. “We’ve been adding more classes all the time.”

Junior Clinic sessions are divided into “Big Hitters,” “Junior Development,” and “Academy.”

Another popular event is Live-Ball Tennis for players of all ages and levels.

“It’s like a doubles king-of-the-court game,” Marjanovic said. “It’s a high-paced, cardio activity. Every day we’re adding new classes. It’s fun and a social activity.”

Besides all the programs and activities, recreational tennis players can also reserve their own court time for singles or doubles games. While tennis may not be as popular as it once was, there are still a good number of local players who hit at Cheviot Hills.

“There’s a lot of people who use the courts every day,” Marjanovic said.

The Cheviot Hills Tennis Center is located at 2601 Motor Avenue in Los Angeles. It’s in a scenic park area near a golf course and baseball and softball fields. Tennis court hours are daily from 7 am to 10 pm.
