Olga Kimaiyo, 26, also of Kenya, was the fastest woman, with an unofficial 2:54:34.
Temperatures at the finish line, as the elite runners crossed, were a temperate 76 degrees.
Hot temperatures that may cause problems for the amateurs, later in the day, had not materialized and the 30-minute advance in the start time also kept runners cool in the first two hours.
Jared Ward was the fastest American, sprinting into third place with an unofficial time of 2:12:56.
