“How to Train Your Dragon 2” wins big at Annie Awards

“How to Train Your Dragon 2” won the top honor at Saturday night’s 42nd annual Annie Awards presented by the International Animated Film Society at UCLA’s Royce Hall.

The Dreamworks presentation, which had 10 nominations, captured the Best Animated Feature award, beating out Focus Features’ “The Boxtrolls,” which had a leading 13 nominations heading into the gala ceremony.

“Big Hero 6” and “Song of the Sea” each had seven nominations for the awards.

All four films were best animated feature contenders, along with “Cheatin’,” “The Book of Life,” “The LEGO Movie” and “The Tale of The Princess Kayuga.”

Didier Brunner, Don Lusk and Lee Mendelson were given Winsor McCay Awards for their career contributions to the art of animation.

Charles Solomon accepted the June Foray Award for his “significant and benevolent or charitable impact on the art and industry of animation.”
