Disneyland’s 60th anniversary celebration will begin May 22 and be marked by a new parade, fireworks display and “World of Color” show, Disneyland Resort officials announced Wednesday night.
The “Paint the Night” parade at Disneyland will be the resort’s first all-LED parade, with more than 1.5 million individually controlled lights.
The parade will feature special effects, music and floats, with Mickey Mouse leading the grand finale. Characters from “Monsters, Inc.,” “Cars,” “The Little Mermaid,” “Beauty and the Beast,” “Toy Story” and “Frozen” will also participate.
The “Disneyland Forever” fireworks display will include what is being called “the largest installation of projection mapping technology in a Disney park.”
The display will include two new songs written by Richard M. Sherman, who with his late brother Robert B. Sherman, wrote the Oscar-winning score for “Mary Poppins” and themes for such Disney attractions as “It’s A Small World.”
The new “World of Color” show in Disney California Adventure Park will tell the story of Walt Disney and Disneyland through fountains, film, animation and a musical score.
