Mayor Eric Garcetti to be in Washington D.C. to hear State of the Union address

Mayor Eric Garcetti will be in Washington, D.C., today to hear President Barack Obama deliver the State of the Union address and to attend the U.S. Conference of Mayors, which begins Wednesday.

Garcetti is attending President Barack Obama’s annual speech as the guest of Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-California. He will also be a featured speaker at the National Journal’s “The Next America: Population 2043” event.

While in the nation’s capital, Garcetti will meet with White House officials and members of Congress to talk about Los Angeles’ job creation- and transportation-funding needs, according to the mayor’s office.

Garcetti has meetings scheduled with Office of Management and Budget Director Shaun Donovan, Counselor to the President John Podesta, White House National Economic Council Director Jeffrey Zients and Veterans Administration Secretary Robert McDonald.

Garcetti will also meet with the California congressional delegation, Sen. Barbara Boxer, D-California, and Sen. Cory Booker, D-New Jersey.

Other Los Angeles and Orange county mayors schedule to attend the U.S. Conference of Mayors are Lili Bosse (Beverly Hills), Aja Brown (Compton), Chris Brown (Hawthorne), Patrick J. Furey (Torrance), Robert Garcia (Long Beach), Jack Hadjinian (Montebello), Chris Hamm (San Clemente), Hans Liang (Monterey Park), Mary Ann Lutz (Monrovia), Luis H. Marquez (Downey), Diane J. Martinez (Paramount), Wayne Powell (Manhattan Beach), Zareh Sinanyan (Glendale), Tom Tait (Anaheim) and Nancy Renne Tragarz (Walnut).
