A 38-year-old man was killed in an attempted robbery early today, as he and the thief grappled with a gun, which went off and killed him.
Police were notified of the attempted robbery near Rosewood Avenue and Heliotrope Drive about 3 a.m. today, said Los Angeles police officer Nuria Vanegas of the Media Relations Section. That intersection is two blocks west of Vermont Avenue at the Hollywood (101) Freeway.
“The victim and the suspect became involved in a struggle over the gun at which point the gun went off and the victim sustained a gunshot wound. He died at the scene,” Vanegas said.
Witnesses told police the suspect was apparently a man in his mid 20s, Vanegas said, but there were no other clues disclosed.
