A 20-something man who said he was he was run over by a vehicle on the beach just north of the Santa Monica Pier was hospitalized in critical condition Monday.
A woman heard the man screaming on the beach about dawn Sunday and called for help, Santa Monica police Sgt. Rudy Camarena said.
The man told authorities he had been hit by a vehicle sometime Saturday night. Some tire tracks were found in the sand, but police have not determined who might have been driving or exactly where the accident occurred.
Camarena said the injured man, whose name was unavailable, has not been interviewed yet because of his condition.
A week ago in Venice, 25-year-old Lorae Bermudez was run over by a lifeguard driving a truck near Windward Avenue about 4:20 p.m.
In May, a 49-year-old woman was run over by a county maintenance truck.
Only Los Angeles County lifeguards, some maintenance workers and police are allowed to drive on beaches.
