Actor/singer David Hasselhoff is being sued by a documentary producer for allegedly participating in a competing film work about the 25th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall in breach of an agreement.
Owls Media filed the suit Wednesday in Los Angeles Superior Court, also naming Hasselhoff’s manager, Eric Gardner, and National Geographic Ventures Inc. and Fox Entertainment Group.
The suit seeks unspecified damages and and an injunction preventing National Geographic from using the documentary format created by Owls Media in its productions.
A representative for the 61-year-old former “Baywatch” and “Knight Rider” star could not be immediately reached.
According to the complaint, the Owls Media production of the commemoration of the fall of the Berlin Wall in November 1989 focused on Hasselhoff’s involvement in various “wall events” as well as the impact of his song, “Looking for Freedom.”
Hasselhoff took part in the documentary and was paid, but Gardner convinced the actor to enter into a “superseding documentary almost identical in theme, scope and focus” to the Owls Media version, the suit states.
The National Geographic version is scheduled to be aired in the fall, according to the lawsuit.
