Owners of businesses across Los Angeles said today they are ready for die hard soccer fans looking to join fellow fanatics in front of big-screen televisions to watch the 2014 FIFA World Cup that begins today in Brazil.
The tournament begins at 1 p.m. with a match between Brazil and Croatia in Sao Paulo. Brazil has won the cup five times and is eying a sixth.
Michael Burke, owner of Eat.Drink.Americano on East Third Street in downtown Los Angeles, said he’s ready for a month full of soccer.
“As you have in this country `March Madness,’ it’s going to be `June Madness’ and tipping over slightly into July,” Burke told Video News West.
Many customers have reported they are excited to come and share the experience, and there will be two big screen televisions set up to showcase the matches, Burke said.
“I think there’s going to be a lot of diehards, if you will, and it should be fun,” Burke said.
Businesses down the way at Down and Out on Spring Street, Little Bear on Industrial Street and Spitz on Second Street are also planning for big crowds.
Spitz management has been posting fliers around town, and plans to show every match on three 40-inch HD TVs, according to manager Fernando Del Valle.
