Actor Michael Jace Arrested on Allegations of Murdering His Wife

LAPD
Westside Today latest police news.

Actor Michael Jace has reportedly been arrested on suspicion of shooting and killing his wife in the Hyde Park neighborhood on May 19.

A videographer at the scene of the shooting in the 5400 block of Brynhurst Avenue of Hyde Park identified Jace, 51, by sight, while CBS2 and ABC7 also said he had been taken into custody.

Jace is best known for his role as LAPD Officer Julien Lowe in the TV series The Shield. He also starred opposite Russell Crowe in State of Play and was a recurring character on Southland.

The shooting was reported around 8:30 p.m. on May 19.

LAPD said Jace’s wife was in her 40s and died at the scene.

Children were present at the time of the shooting, he said, and had been placed in protective custody.

[UPDATE: 6:45 a.m.] – The children are under the age of 10, said LAPD Detective Raquel Cruz.

She said multiple gun shots had been fired.

Jace called police himself to report his 40-year-old wife had been shot and that he had pulled the trigger, the celebrity news website TMZ.com reported. He called 911 around 8:30 p.m. and told police, “I shot my wife,” law enforcement sources told TMZ.

The actor stayed on the phone as instructed until LAPD officers arrived and found April Jace dead, sources told TMZ.

Michael Jace was previously married to Jennifer Bitterman but divorced in 2002.

He’s due to make his initial court appearance on Thursday, authorities said.

[UPDATE: 8:10 a.m.] According to L.A. County Jail records, Jace was booked for murder at the LAPD’s 77th Street Division. His bail was set at $1 million.
