Departing planes were halted today at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), John Wayne Airport in Orange County and Bob Hope Airport in Burbank due to a computer problem affecting air-traffic control, with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) issuing a “ground stop” at the airports.
Airport officials said planes were continuing to land, but no planes were taking off.
The ground stop was issued shortly after 2 p.m., and airport officials said there was no immediate estimate on when it would be lifted. Planes lined up on taxiways at LAX waiting to take off while crews worked to resolve the problem.
FAA officials could not be reached for immediate comment on the nature of the problem.
Passengers were being advised to check with their airlines about anticipated delays.
