Award-winning dancer Clara Trigo from the Federal University of Bahia (UFBA) in Brazil, will present performances resulting from a five-day ((August 5th – 9th) dance intensive workshop by in her premiere Los Angeles appearance, featuring somatic, improvisation and composition training.
Professor Trigo guides workshop attendees through a series of improvisations, movement structures and personal investigations designed to challenge pre-conceived notions.
The rigorous program will present insights into balance, proprioception, and motor coordination; culminating in an original creation performance along with works by Professor Trigo and other Los Angeles artists.
Clara Trigo holds a master’s degree from the Dance School of the Federal University of Bahia where she now teaches “Creative Processes.” She began her training in Ballet and later studied Capoeira, Contemporary, African and Flamenco dance in Seville, Spain. Since 1999 she has worked as a dancer and dance-maker performing and creating works with choreographers from the Netherlands, Portugal, Germany, Cape Verde and Brazil. As founder and artistic director of the dance company Sua Cia, based in Salvador, Bahia, she has presented work, taught seminars, hosted conferences throughout Brazil and Europe. Clara’s work as a choreographer explores the dynamic place when the body and mind are destabilized. She has pioneered the use and creation of Pilates equipment (Flymoon Creations) designed to facilitate technical training. As a teacher Clara proposes a constant exchange between technical improvement and creative processes.
