Public Hearing for Century City Purple Line Extension

Metro will host the draft Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement hearing on

June 22 in Beverly Hills.

On June 22, Metro will hold a public hearing for the draft Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement (SEIS) for Section 2 of the Purple Line extension.

Section 2 will cover the 2.6 miles of track from downtown through Mid Wilshire to Century City and includes two new stations at Wilshire/Rodeo, and at Avenue of the Stars and Constellation Boulevard in Century City.

Metro already conducted an SEIS between 2007 and 2012, but this new, updated study now includes specifics about the Constellation Boulevard station, including seismic studies, public health, and construction.

The additional SEIS comes on the heels of the Federal Transit Administration (FTA)’s judgment from August 2016.

Metor said in a statement, “The new report includes additional analysis regarding the Century City Constellation station, seismic studies, public health, construction and other impacts for the planned subway alignment.”

The FTA is expected to publish a final report later this summer after the public comment period, which ends on July 17.

In January, the U.S. Department of Transportation pledged $1.6 billion toward the extension’s Section 2 as part of a full funding agreement. Local funding will cover $747 million for the project.

That money will come from the Measure R half-cent sales tax that was passed by L.A. County voters in 2008.

Section 2 has been budgeted at $2.4 billion dollars, with the entire line (which will consist of three sections, ultimately taking the line to Westwood), estimated to cost $6.3 billion.

If everything remains on target, work on section 2 is slated to begin in Century City in 2018, with a completion date officially projected by 2026.

However, Metro believes that it can potentially complete Section 2 by 2024 in time for that year’s summer Olympics, which Los Angeles is bidding for.

The meeting on June 22 will take place at 6 p.m. at Roxbury Park Community Center, Multipurpose Room B, 471 Roxbury Dr., Beverly Hills, 90212.
