Leading Westside citizen volunteers including Rich Battista, Laura Fox, Ellen and Andrew Hauptman, Hannah Minghella, Stacey Snider, and Arn Tellem have lined up to support City Year Los Angeles’ crew of 200 young leaders, each of whom will dedicate 1,700 hours to serve less advantaged youth of our fair city as mentors and role models. Since 1988 City Year programs have partnered with public schools in 24 communities to keep students on a successful academic path. To achieve this, City Year volunteers spend a year at an underserved school tutoring students academically both individually and within the classroom while also working with the administration and teachers on attendance and behavior.
On Saturday, April 20, 2013 City Year Los Angeles will host its biggest fundraiser of the year, City Year Spring Break: Destination Education at the famed Sony Studios lot in Culver City. Revelers will be able to enjoy a party-style atmosphere with interactive booths sponsored by participating brands. This year’s event will include a musical performance by Skylar Grey as well as a special DJ performance by SkyBlu of LMFAO. Last year, Spring Break: Destination Education brought together more than 1,200 attendees and helped raise $1.2 million for City Year Los Angeles.
This year’s Spring Break: Destination Education event co-chairs who helped organize the occasion include: Rich Battista (CEO, Mandalay Sports Media), Laura Fox, Robert Greenblatt (Chairman, NBC Entertainment), Andrew and Ellen Hauptman (Chair/Co-Chair, Andell, Inc), Hannah Minghella (President of Production, Columbia Pictures), David Shaheen (Managing Director and Group Head Entertainment Industries Group, J.P.
