Westwood parents are hard at work collecting donations for an online auction that will benefit their children’s school.
Fairburn Avenue Elementary School’s annual Online Auction is March 20-April 3 at www.biddingforgood.com/fairburn
Participants can bid on meals at some of Los Angeles’ most popular restaurants, tickets to L.A. Lakers games and other sports and performing arts events, retail gift cards, gift certificates for kids’ classes and camps, parties hosted by parents, exclusive entertainment experiences and many other items.
As local school districts cut funding, the schools need more help than ever to compensate for the budget gaps. Bake sales and car washes don’t generate enough revenue to cover classroom aides or a physical education teacher. The loss of staff and school programs has parent booster club members scrambling to come up with ideas to persuade parents, neighbors and local businesses to reach deeper into their pockets to support the schools.
“With support and donations from parents, local businesses and the neighboring community, we will be able to endow hundreds of students with the type of education all children deserve,†urges parent Jennifer Drebin, who heads the auction’s Donations Committee.
Donations are still being accepted and sponsorship opportunities are available. All contributions are tax-deductible, and auction volunteers are available to pick up donated items. To donate, contact Jen Drebin (jendrebin@mac.com). To advertise on the auction site, contact Janel Ablon (jablon@litter.com).
