Community Matters

Editor-in-Chief, JEFFREY S. HALL

A few months ago we said we were going to host a “recession buster†networking party. Some working on the event said they thought there wasn’t enough time to pull it all together, so we postponed.

Many of you were disappointed and keep asking when we’re going to do this. Clearly it’s the right idea at the right time.

Well, now we’re on again. Let’s do it this time. And let’s do it right!
Mark your calendars for the evening of Monday, February 23, from 6 p.m. till 9 p.m. The event will be held at the Luxe Sunset Hotel at 11461 Sunset Blvd., just west of the 405, in Brentwood. The Luxe is our co-sponsor.

We’ll start off with cocktails, soft drinks, bubbly water and hors d’ oeuvres. The first drink is on us; after that, it’s up to you.
Then we’ll hear from Amy Applebaum, a motivational speaker.

Amy Applebaum is an author, speaker, life coach and leader of inspirational seminars. She is also the co-host of the upcoming radio show, “Tough Love†, and her first book, “Bootcamp for Your Mind(r): Six Steps to Solving Life’s Problems†will be published later this year. Amy recently appeared on The Learning Channel and on the ABC special, “The ABC’s of Women’s Health?†You can learn more about Amy by visiting www.bootcampforyourmind.com

Then we’ll have an hour of “Rapid Networking,†emceed by Rene Piane (she is great at this, I’ve seen her). Rene will give us all some great tips on how to be a great networker, followed by a very fun exercise that will quickly introduce us to several other attendees in a rapid one-on-one. To learn more about Rene, check out www.rapiddating.com

Music will be provided by CARA-C of Clarion Records. CARA-C is a Grammy-nominated, Juilliard-trained, international pop violinist. Combining heart grabbing melodies with contemporary pop sounds, CARA-C’s music appeals to a worldwide audience. She recently appeared on PBS.  I have heard her before, she’s terrific.  Check out www.cara-c.com

But there’s no reason we can’t mix business with pleasure. Let’s start on the evening of February 23rd, when we hold our Westside “Recession Buster†Networking Mixer. All are invited.

This should be a great and uplifting evening. If you meet just ONE person who becomes a meaningful contact, it will all be worthwhile. And if we collectively rally together and pull ourselves out of this slump, better yet!

The cost to attend is $20 per person plus $5 for parking. You get one drink and a few hors d’ oeuvres – and lots of fellowship. Leave work a little early that night and get there on time!

Want to attend? Quick, send an email telling us you plan on coming to: events@westsidetoday.com. Be sure to leave your name and a phone number.  We’ll contact you to get your billing information. Hope to see you there!
