Longtime resident and former South Brentwood Residents Association (SBRA) President Marilyn Krell, was profiled in Councilmember Mike Bonin’s July “Neighborhood First” column.
Krell spoke about why she moved to Brentwood, how she became involved with SBRA and her work in the Brentwood community.
Asked about what she saw as the most pressing issues facing Brentwood and surrounding Los Angeles, Krell said, “I hate to say this, but it is still traffic. When I moved to Brentwood from the Hollywood Hills, people told me that they never went east of the 405. I was amazed because that was the only part of L.A. I knew. But now, we don’t often go east of Bundy. We have a unique challenge in L.A. as we are so spread out and housing here is so expensive. I spoke with a nurse who told me she lived in Riverside and works in Santa Monica. It takes her two hours to get to a job she loves. I wish I had an easy answer. Public transit will help…I love to take the Expo downtown…but the problem won’t be resolved any time soon I’m afraid.”
Krell also said, “I hope people realize how important our community groups are to our government. When people work on issues of importance to them and have a councilmember who listens to their concerns, that is how things get done.”
