Seven people were hospitalized today with critical injuries suffered in a two-vehicle collision in Hollywood triggered by a hit-and-run motorist fleeing from the scene of a nearby minor collision, police said.
The victims included a 2-year-old boy and a 1-month old boy. The others were a 20-year-old woman, a 16-year-old girl and three men, one 50 years old, another 19 and a third who age was not immediately available, said Katherine Stewart of the Los Angeles Fire Department.
Firefighters and paramedics were dispatched at 9:28 p.m. Saturday to the scene of the crash in the 1000 block of North Orange Drive, near Santa Monica Boulevard, Stewart said.
The hit-and-run motorist was driving southbound on Orange Drive from a minor traffic crash at Sunset Boulevard and Orange Drive when he ran the red light while driving on the wrong side of the street and hit the victims’ vehicle that was eastbound on Santa Monica Boulevard, said Los Angeles police Sgt. C. Barlow of the West Traffic Division.
Police did not immediately have a description of the suspect or his vehicle, Barlow said.
Anyone who witnessed the crash was asked to call the Los Angeles Police Department’s West Traffic Division at (213) 473-0222.
